Anti-ragging Committee:

Ragging is defined as an act that violates or perceived to violate an individual student’s dignity. According to thejudgementof the Supreme Courtdated 08.05.2009 in Civil Appeal No.  887/2009, if any instance of ragging is brought to the notice of the administration or the faculty, it is legally binding on the institute to report the matter to the Local Police.

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

a) Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken orwritten or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating orhandling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.

b) Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or studentswhich causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical orpsychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresheror any other student.

c) Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in theordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating asense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affectthe physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.

d) Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regularacademic activity of any other student or a fresher.

e) Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completingthe academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.

f) Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on afresher or any other student by students

g) Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse,homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts,gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;

h) Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults whichwould also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadisticthrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture tofresher or any other student.

i) Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or anyother student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure orshowing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher

In our institution a strong anti-ragging committee is functioning so as to aware students that they must not indulge any acts of ragging and in the event of any such cases the matter will be placed before the Anti-Ragging Committee, which will review the incident of ragging and take action according to the due process of law. The committee is headed by Dr. Asha N D, HOS, Biomedical Department. An anti-ragging squad is also functioning in the college to monitor the students so as to avoid the circumstances of ragging.
