Government Polytechnic College Vechoochira was established by the Government of Kerala in 1998 in order to impart the benefits of quality technical education to rural regions of Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. This institution is fully owned by the Government of Kerala and is administratively controlled by the Director of Technical Education, Kerala. It produces qualified and technically accomplished technicians for the development of the society in general and industry in particular. As it is a Government institution, students are admitted on the basis of merit. Seats are also reserved for backward classes as stipulated by the government rules.
Government Polytechnic College Vechoochira functions in a state-of-art permanent building situated in the lush green crest of Ex- service men Colony Hill track in Kollamula village, Vechoochira. The institutional building and the hostels spread out in a 10 acre large green turf that overlooks a panoramic view of the mighty Western Ghats to the East. The college is situated about two kilometres from Vechoochira town and is accessible by road from Ranni in Pathanamthitta district and Erumely in Kottayam District.
Government Polytechnic College, Vechoochira, ever since its beginning offers diploma programmes in three branches of Engineering- Biomedical, Computer and Electronics Engineering. The present intake is 60 students each in all three branches. It is one of the few institutions that offer a programme in Biomedical engineering in the State. The college boasts of well-equipped Labs in all branches of study, common internet facility, a good library and reading room, a multi- gym, seminar hall and faculty rooms. The lush green scenic beauty coupled with excellent facilities provide good ambience for learning, skill development and incubation of entrepreneurship ideas. There are several clubs as well as curricular and co-curricular schemes in the college along with academic activities. There is a NSS Technical Cell unit functioning in the college in order to inculcate social commitment and service mindedness among students. Finishing School Training sessions and Departmental Associations are conducted to enhance the social and technical skills of students and to sharpen their professionalism. The Visiting Faculty Scheme enables students to have regular interactions with external experts from various industries and organisations. Students who leave the college after their course of study can become part of a well-functioning Alumni Association.
